Got the “gay” thing behind us now, right? Frankly, I like my gay people right out in front where I can see ‘em. There are consequences for turning your back…
All kidding aside (maybe), the DOMA ruling this week is going to give us some interesting insight into some of the motivations and logic by many people on our side of the aisle. Bear with me while I lay this case out:
1. We will find out if the gay community is really a single issue bloc, but don’t hold your breath. According to an article from the Outside the Beltway blog (which should be titled, In the Beltway, but in the Far Left lane), the gay community isn’t just liberal on the whole gay marriage issue.
2. Liberal gays outnumber Conservative gays by three to one, which begs the question: There are conservative gays? (That one was for you, @gaypatriot)
3. To those in our party who thought the gay marriage issue was, like the abortion issue, an albatross around our neck, are the gay votes going to flock to us now? And since the issue is behind us, are you going to finally criticize single-issue voters on the left as much as you do those on your own side?
There is a palpable change in the very fabric of our nation. Gay marriage is but one aspect of that change. Frankly, the other aspects of liberalism and progressivism are far more frightening for the future of our country than two dudes getting married. We are still monitoring our own countrymen illegally, spending way more than our children will ever have, bypassing the rule of law and checks and balances for political victories, and waging a full-on war on capitalism in this country.
But hey, at least now same-sex couples can lose their future together.
Just for fun, here is Melissa-Harris Perry saying the SCOTUS didn't do enough, and "gutted the power of the federal government"...
