Local Mexican restaurant chain to pay $280,000 to employees

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A local restaurant chain is having to pay up more than a quarter of a million dollars to its employees.

Senor Tequila has three locations in the Lowcountry, and was fined by the US Department of Labor.

The department alleges that the restaurant owners paid the wrong amount, or didn’t pay some employees when they worked overtime.

Now they’re being ordered to pay almost $280,000 in back wages and damages to 68 employees.

“The employers have violated the FLSA previously and are aware of the wage laws and their obligation to pay employees for all hours they have worked,” said Wage and Hour Division District Director Jamie Benefiel, in Columbia. “The U.S. Department of Labor will hold accountable those employers that continue to violate the law.”

The Department of Labor says the chain has previously violated the Fair Labor Standards Act.
