MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -
US Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos is planning to visit Laing Middle School of Science and Technology in Mount Pleasant.
According to Charleston County School District officials, the middle school has tentatively accepted DeVos' request for a visit.
When DeVos is expected to visit the school hasn't been officially released.
CCSD officials say DeVos reached out to schools in the district to request school visits.
"Neither the State Department of Education nor the Charleston County School District were contacted prior to Secretary DeVos reaching out to schools," said CCSD Communications Officer Erica Taylor."In our District, principals have the autonomy to organize and plan school based events; and at this time at least one CCSD school has tentatively accepted the request for Secretary DeVos to visit. District leadership will support our school leader(s) as appropriate if needed."
