SCDOT to temporarily close lanes on I-26 for Volvo Interchange Project

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The state's Department of Transportation will temporarily close eastbound lanes on I-26 beginning Monday.

The change will allow girders to be installed across the eastbound lanes of the interstate between mile markers 199 and 191, Dorchester County spokesperson Tiffany Norton said. That stretch of the interstate runs from the Ridgeville and Jedburg Road exits.

The following closures are planned:

  • 6 p.m. on Monday to 8 a.m. on Tuesday
  • 6 p.m. on Tuesday to 7 a.m. on (Wednesday) Aug. 29
  • 7 p.m. Aug. 29 to 7 a.m. Aug. 30
  • 7 p.m. Aug. 30 to 6 a.m. Aug. 31

Also, on Monday and Wednesday, the South Carolina Highway Patrol will be slowly pacing traffic through the work zone.

Drivers may experience up to 20 minutes of wait time for placement of each girder.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol will clear traffic between each girder placement operation. One lane of traffic will remain open, except during pacing operations.

All scheduled times are approximate and dependent on the weather.

Drivers traveling near the construction zones are asked to be aware of equipment and crews, new and changing traffic patterns, and to comply with traffic control signs, reductions in speed limits, and message board information.
