CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -
Charleston County Council approved a program Tuesday that will make it easier to maintain some of the roads you ride on everyday.
Throughout the county, drivers roll along miles and miles of state roads.
Clam Road and Coquina Road are state roads, but the county has been taking care of them.
As a matter of fact, Charleston County spends $4.2 million a year resurfacing roads like those, keeping them in good working condition for the folks who drive on them.
But there could be some relief in sight.
The county voted Tuesday night to participate in a Department of Transportation (DOT) program called Turnback.
It would "turnback" the authority of these roads, over to the county in which they are located and that program will also help those counties foot the bill for taking care of the roads.
