CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -
A judge set bond Thursday for a man and woman are accused of stealing almost $200,000 worth of copper wiring from MUSC.
Rusty Sellers and Erica See were arrested Wednesday by MUSC public safety officers and face several charges including burglary and grand larceny, jail records state.
Court affidavits state Sellers and See stole copper wiring from MUSC on four different occasions, June 7, July 21, July 23 and July 29.
A bond court judge set Sellers' bond at $115,000 and See's bond was set at $65,000, according to jail records.
Court records state Sellers has a prior conviction in South Carolina for receiving and transporting non-ferrous metals.
According to the affidavits, the wiring was stolen from either the MUSC central energy plant loading dock or from behind the MUSC Wellness Center.
The affidavits state the two were seen on surveillance video taking the copper. The court papers also state their vehicles and the license tags were caught on video surveillance during some of the thefts.
An MUSC spokesman said it appears neither of the suspects has any ties to the hospital. MUSC says none of the stolen copper has bee recovered and that local scrap yards have been alerted.
