CofC interim Pres calls for additional push for diversity in admissions

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The interim president of the College of Charleston says he called for an additional review of applications as part of a push for diversity.

The word comes just weeks after President Donald Trump dropped diversity recommendations for college admissions. But the CofC says it does consider race when it decides who is accepted to the school.

In a message posted on the school's website, Interim President Stephen Osborne said he "advised the admissions team, effective immediately, to implement an additional application review of students of color and to make it abundantly clear that, as an institution, we do and will consider race as a factor in our holistic review process."

Osborne also called diversity a core value of the college that plays a role in shaping the campus community.
