13-year-old to be charged for 6 home burglaries in Shadowmoss neighborhood

WEST ASHLEY SC (WCSC) -

Investigators say a 13-year-old will be charged for six home burglaries at a West Ashley neighborhood.

The Charleston Police Department announced the arrest Friday evening and said the suspect is also being charged for a car break-in.

The home burglaries happened on July 12 at the Shadowmoss neighborhood.

According to police, the suspect is being held in the Juvenile Detention Center on related Charleston County Sheriff’s Office charges.

CCSO officials say the same juvenile is being charged for motor vehicle break-ins in Ravenel.

CPD detectives say they interviewed the juvenile who admitted to committing the burglaries and car break-in.

"The charges of six counts of burglary first degree and one count of breaking into a motor vehicle are pending against him," CPD officials said.

The first call came just after 5 a.m. from a Muirfield Parkway resident, according to Charleston police department spokesman Charles Francis.

Another came around 6:30 a.m. when a homeowner found her back door open with her purse in the backyard with credit cards scattered everywhere, Francis said. Another call came in at 6:45 a.m. from a resident on Toura Lane where someone stole multiple items from a car, but there were no signs of forced entry, Francis said.

A call also came in at 6:59 a.m. to a house on Martins Path for a burglary and car break-in. The car had been rummaged through along with a drawer in the living room, Francis said. At 8 a.m., a resident on Fieldfare Way called about a suspect who had entered through an exterior side garage door and was caught on camera walking through the residence.

A woman named Ellen said the burglars opened her son's bedroom window but were scared off.
