SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -
The deadline passed Sunday for Summerville Mayor Wiley Johnson to sign a new code of ethics.
Town Council passed a resolution two weeks ago promising to censure Johnson if he failed to sign the code within 10 days. A censure could mean Johnson could lose some of his leadership positions in the town.
Summerville Town Clerk Beth Messervy confirmed on Monday that Johnson had not signed the document.
After town council passed the resolution to censure the mayor, Messervy said an email the mayor sent to the town administrator set the whole thing in motion. In the email, Johnson asked to have an SUV removed from a ditch because it had been there for a few days. Town council members said they passed the resolutionbecause Johnson has been rude and they’ve heard complaints from town employees.
However, a search of documents found no complaints had been filed against Johnson to the town of Summerville.
Johnson said other things are in play between other council members and the town lawyer.
Messervy says a decision won’t be made until town council can take a vote.
