Emanuel AME honors two victims of shooting with special luncheon

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Two members of Emanuel AME who died in the church massacre three years ago were honored at a special luncheon on Wednesday.

Ethel Lance and Susie Jackson were long time members at Mother Emanuel and were active members in the church’s senior citizen program.

Members of the victim’s families were invited to the event.

Former Charleston Mayor Joe Riley was the featured speaker and centered his talk around the upcoming International African American Museum to be built just blocks away from Emanuel AME.

Riley says one of the missions of the museum would be to educate the youth about the past, adding that perhaps if someone had gotten to Dylann Roof earlier the tragedy might have been avoided altogether.
