The Charleston area could see heavy rain coming up from the tropics by Memorial Day weekend.
ABC News 4 Chief Meteorologist Dave Williams says a high pressure system off the east coast combined with low pressure in the northern Gulf of Mexico will be feeding moisture into the Southeast.
Rains up from the Caribbean are expected to impact the Lowcounty by Sunday, and continue through the middle of next week, Williams says.
Meanwhile, meteorologists are keeping an eye on a weak area of low pressure south of Cuba that has a 40 percent chance of becoming a tropical or subtropical system.
"Hurricane season begins June 1st, but tropical systems are not unheard of in May," Williams says. "There are many questions yet to be answered with this system including, intensity, eventual track and the specific timing. The models certainly have not come into agreement, so it will be carefully monitored over the next several days."
