Sheriff's Office warning people of buying, selling on social media

After the North Charleston Police Department warned buyers and sellers of the Let Go app after they say three people were robbed from using the app, now the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office is warning people of selling and buying goods through social media.

Deputies say they have had numerous citizens robbed at gunpoint while selling items through social media

Deputies say suspects are posing as potential buyers or sellers and talking with people through Facebook Messenger or text messages to set up a meeting place.

The sheriff’s office says most of these meetings are taking place at nighttime in the parking lot at or near the Food Lion on Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston.

The sheriff’s office encourages people to meet at a safe time and location. They say the sheriff’s parking lot or any local police department can be used to safely make exchanges.

If you have any questions or concerns you may call the sheriff’s office at 843-873-5111 and ask to speak with a deputy.
