1 Dead After Crash Involving Garrett Academy Wrestling Team

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — There was heavy police activity reported in the area of Rivers Avenue and Greenridge Road early Thursday morning.

Officials with the North Charleston Police Department say the crash involved a school bus.

The bus carrying the Garrett Academy wrestling team was struck by a pick-up truck, officials say. The driver died at the scene.

Of the 14 students on the bus, Charleston County School District officials confirm four were transported to local hospitals with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

The crash was reported just before 11 p.m.

Witnesses communicating with our newsroom say officers were turning drivers around in the area at around 12:20 a.m.

The intersection was back open in time for morning commuters.
