Lottery winner: The kids get it all

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A Charleston man who won a million dollars in the lottery said he's giving the money to his children and grandchildren.

"I don't need anything," he told lottery officials. His wife agreed with the decision.

"We won't change our life because of this win," she said. "We just want to take care of our family."

The couple won the Mega Millions for the drawing on Tuesday, December 27. The numbers were 2, 28, 30, 38, 39 and MegaBall 11.

They said told their children right away.

"The grandkids get what I have anyway," the winner said.

Luckily for the winning couple, South Carolina doesn't have a gift tax.

The odds of winning $1 million playing Mega Millions are about 1 in 18.5 million.

For selling the winning ticket, the Circle K on Folly Road got a commission of $10,000.

The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday's drawing is an estimated $137 million.
